The fierce competition between the K League 2 teams for promotion to the K League 1 begins soon. Many coaches predicted that Incheon United and Suwon Samsung Bluewings will be promoted.
At the "Hana Bank K League 2 2025 Opening Media Day" held at the Nuri Dream Square Business Tower International Conference Room in Sangam-dong, Seoul on the 19th, coaches of 14 K League 2 teams spoke about the likely promotion candidates and competition this season.
Yoon Jeong-hwan, manager of Incheon United who is aiming to win promotion to this season after overcoming the pain of relegation from the previous season, said, "I think we should go with unrivaled performance. Actually, this is my first time in the second division. I heard that the second division is very difficult. Depending on how you do it, I think you can go with unrivaled performance or go with the flow of water," adding, "I think Seoul E-Land, Chungnam Asan and Suwon will compete for promotion. As time goes by, I feel that the second division teams are performing better. I think we need to realize that we will have a way to go with it."
"Incheon will not be able to lead the team alone. On the surface, Incheon and Suwon have good squads. Based on information they heard during the off-season training, they are doing well as a team. I think the two teams are close to being promoted," Kim Do-kyun, the coach of Seoul E-Land, said. "However, I believe the other teams are similar. How we win in the early part of the season and how we accumulate points is important."
"I think Incheon made a lot of effort to get promoted. But the second half is like a swamp. I'm in a hurry, so I'll go first," said Bae Sung-jae, manager of Asan, South Chungcheong Province, who made the first playoff. "I think the Incheon, Suwon and Seoul E-land will unfold, and we'll work hard to get promoted."
Suwon manager Byun Sung-hwan, who tried to return to the K League 1 for the first time in a year last season, said, "We failed to advance to the playoffs last year. I think we need to compete with the top teams above us. We also expected a lot of people to be promoted last year, but it collapsed disastrously," adding, "Coach Yoon Jung-hwan said he would run alone, but 13 teams including our team will not let it stand."
South Jeolla Province coach Kim Hyun-seok was relieved that the coaches mentioned earlier did not consider South Jeolla Province a candidate for promotion. However, he expressed his commitment to advance to the K League 1 taking advantage of other teams' negligence. "I was relieved that our team was not included in the promotion structure. When the previously called teams bite and tear, we will take advantage of that opportunity to advance," the coach said. "Incheon, Suwon, Seoul E-Land, and Asan, South Chungcheong Province are all great teams," he said. "But we have to go until the end to find out. We will do our best to advance to the end."
Busan manager Cho Seong-hwan expressed caution. "This is my 10th time attending the Media Day. I think K League 1 will match the winning team to a certain extent when it comes to forecasting the winning team, but I think it will be really difficult to match the results of last year's four to five months of experience in the second division," Cho said. "Maybe, we could face a situation where all three teams can advance to the second division this season. I think teams that do not make mistakes and fail in every game will be in a good position."
Bucheon coach Lee Young-min also found it difficult to predict. "I think Suwon and Incheon will be the most promising candidates. However, I don't think Gyeongnam and Seongnam, which were at the bottom of the last season, will be at the bottom this season as well. I don't think anyone can predict it until the middle of the season," Lee said.
Kimpo coach Ko Jung-woon vowed that Kimpo will make a splash again. "I heard of Incheon, Suwon, Seoul E-Land, Jeonnam, Asan, Chungnam, and Busan, but there are many things you don't see. We don't know about the second division. Some teams are ahead of us, but we can't ignore Kimpo. We will try our best to get them back into the promotion race this season," the coach said.
"먹튀검증 This is my first experience as a coach of the K League 2 this year, and I think Incheon, Suwon and Seoul E-Land are candidates for promotion," said Lee Eul-yong, manager of South Gyeongsang Province, who became an official coach for the first time. "Since I am a novice coach, I would like to be hit hard by a whip this season. I think I will be challenged for promotion next year at best."
